Film Imitating Art: The Dreamers
Eva Green in a scene from The Dreamers (2003), wearing long black gloves, standing in a dark doorway frame imitating Venus De Milo aka Aphrodite of Milos (estimated 100 BCE). The director Bernado Bertolucci made subtle knods to many other French treasures. Scenes shot in the Lourve, Eugène Delacroix's 'Liberty Leading the People' is hung in the guest room, and of course since the film is based around three young film buffs lots of wonderful Godard moments appear as well. I was semi-obsessed with this film when I first saw it a few years ago, definitely worth a viewing.
